Pre-charge Cable (ASS070400100)
Description
The Pre-charge Cable allows internal capacitors of an inverter, inverter/charger, or MPPT to be pre-charged via the DC terminals before connecting the battery. This method ensures that connecting the battery will not result in arcing at the connection point.
The pre-charge time for a MultiPlus-II 48/5000 when using the Pre-charge Cable is less than a second. Larger systems will take longer to pre-charge. The largest system targeted with the Pre-charge Cable is a 3-unit system with MultiPlus-II or Quattro (4). For larger systems, several Pre-charge Cables can be used in parallel, or individual units can be pre-charged and connected to the battery one at a time.
Installation
- Connect the battery negative to the inverter.
- Do not connect the positive battery cable yet.
- Connect the Pre-charge Cable between battery and device:
- Connect the BAT+ alligator clamp to the positive terminal of the battery.
- Connect the second alligator clamp to the positive input terminal of the inverter, inverter/charger, or MPPT. If needed, use a short extension wire to reach the terminal.
- Wait for the yellow LED to switch off indicating the pre-charge process is complete (see LED indications below).
- After pre-charging, remove the pre-charge cable and immediately complete the positive battery connection.
LED Indications
- Red LED: Indicates reverse polarity. The cable is not damaged but must be disconnected and reconnected correctly.
- Yellow LED: Lights up while pre-charging. Internal capacitors are charging with a current of up to 0.5 A. The LED turns off when pre-charging is complete and the device is at battery voltage.
Notes
- If the pre-charge cable is left connected after pre-charging, it will continue to draw a small current.
- In larger systems with high-capacitance inverters or chargers, this current may remain at the maximum of 0.5 A.
- We recommend removing the pre-charge cable after pre-charging is complete to avoid unnecessary power drain.
